School District 54 - COVID News
Update May 19th, 2020
Recently, the Ministry of Education announced a Five Stage Plan to return to classroom learning.
School District 54 is currently operating in Stage 4 and has developed a plan to migrate to Stage 3 by June 1st. This plan has been approved by the Ministry of Education and is in keeping with guidelines of the Provincial Health Officer and Worksafe BC.
Stage 3 will include in-class learning for Kindergarten to Grade 5 on a part time (2-3 days per week) basis and Grades 6-12 on a one day per week basis. Stage 3 will not be a return to regular classroom learning but will see teachers gathering with smaller groups of students where both staff and students can respect physical distancing guidelines. School attendance in Stage 3 is voluntary.
Currently we have an operating plan aligned with the four guiding principles:
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment for all students, families and employees
- Provide the services needed to support children of our essential service workers
- Support vulnerable students who may need special assistance
- Provide continuity of educational opportunities for all students
Throughout Stage 4 our district has had many staff and select students attending our school buildings. During this time, custodial staff have provided enhanced cleanring and sanitization of high-touch surfaces and public spaces. Schools have been implementing a variety of practices to control access, traffic volume and hand sanitization. As we move to Stage 3, these rigerous controls will continue with additional enhancements for the increased numbers attending schools. Regular bus transportation remains suspended at this time.
