Dual-Credit

Dual-Credit allows students in grades 11 and 12 to enrol in post-secondary courses and programs that count toward post-secondary credits, as well as grade 12 elective credits toward graduation. Where exactly the learning takes place, be it at a post-secondary campus, at the secondary school, or online is determined at the school level.

What qualifies as dual-credit?

Students are able to earn dual-credits through one of the following pathways:

  1. Equivalency – Applies to students who have completed an equivalent Grade 10-12 course from an education system outside of BC
  2. Challenge – Applies to students who are able to demonstrate prior learning of any Ministry course offered in that same year
  3. Post-Secondary Courses – Applies to students who earn credit toward a one, two, or four year post-secondary credential at a qualifying institution.

Pathway #3 is the most common way to earn dual-credit in School District 54. Typically this will be our semester-long trades and early childhood education programs. Students are also able to take single courses from other institutions that qualify for dual-credit.

Talk to your school counsellor to find out if dual-credit is the right fit for you.
